NORDEA JOINS GCPS AS A PARTICIPATING BANK FOR THE NORDICS.

GCPS is happy to announce the membership of Nordea as a Participating Bank for the Nordics.

Nordea Profile

Nordea is the leading financial services group in the Nordic and Baltic Sea region, providing a wide range of products, services and solutions within banking, asset management and insurance.

Nordea has almost 10 million customers, more than 1,100 branch offices and a leading netbanking position with 4.6 million e-customers.  The Nordea share is listed on the stock exchanges in Stockholm, Helsinki and Copenhagen.

Nordea the first 186 years

Nordea is admittedly one of the more recent bank names, commemorating its 6th anniversary this year, but the bank traces its roots as far back as 186 years.  To date 250 banks have been incorporated and many exciting events have taken place.

Nordea's formation was based on creating new possibilities.  The possibilities of providing better financial solutions - better for the customer, better than the competitors, better than before - and to do this at lower cost and with higher quality.

This ambition is encapsulated in the group's mission statement: "Making it possible."  This is about helping customers to achieve what they aspire to.  Its combined innovative strength and strong position in the Nordic region are vital success factors in this quest.  Even the name is a reflection of this.  Nordea stems from the combination of two words, "Nordic" and "Idea" - Nordic ideas.

The group originates from four Nordic banks: Merita Bank, Nordbanken, Unibank, and Christiania Bank og Freditkasse, from Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Norway respectively.  Since December 2001 all operations have been conducted under the brand name of Nordea.

Nordea today is the largest financial services group in the Nordic and Baltic Sea region.  Its strong Nordic base means that it can create fully integrated Nordic production and distribution networks, an essential part of its ambition to offer the best financial solutions.

Nordea is the clearest example of the structural change that has characterised the Nordic banking and insurance operations during the last decade.  The change has been rapid and far-reaching.  Indeed the landscape of the banking and insurance sectors has been transformed completely.  Certain transactions have been conducted between the countries, while others have been transacted across national boundaries.  The tendency to consolidation has, however, been prevalent throughout the entire Nordic and Baltic Sea region.

Nordea has been at the forefront of developments and today it is the player in the region who has made the most significant progress in terms of the integration of banking and insurance activities across national boundaries.  The group has also come a long way towards being recognised as the leading provider of financial services in the Nordic and Baltic Sea region.
